プロ野球、阪神・巨人「伝統の一戦」にまつわるエピソードです。
三重県伊勢市は、プロ野球草創期を支えた元巨人・沢村栄治氏、元阪神・西村幸生氏のゆかりの地。
倉田山球場には、二人の銅像が対面するように建てられています。
Ise City is the birthplace of two legendary pitchers who supported the early days of Japanese professional baseball: Eiji Sawamura (Giants) and Yukio Nishimura (Hanshin/Kitaya).
Their statues stand facing each other at Kuratayama Stadium.

沢村 栄治 Eiji Sawamura
伊勢市岩淵町に生まれた沢村栄治は、京都商業（現・京都学園）時代から剛腕で知られました。
1934年の日米野球では、ベーブ・ルース、ルー・ゲーリッグら大リーグ選抜のクリーンナップから4者連続三振を奪い、世界を驚愕させました。
巨人軍のエースとして、プロ野球史上初のノーヒットノーラン達成や、初代MVPを獲得。「懸河のドロップ」と称された落差のあるカーブと豪速球で、伝説的な活躍をしました。
彼の背番号14は永久欠番となり、その功績を称え、シーズンで最も優れた投手に贈られる「沢村賞」が制定されています。
Born in Ise, Sawamura shocked the world in 1934 by striking out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in succession.
As the Giants' ace, he achieved the first no-hitter in pro baseball history and won the first MVP award.
His legendary #14 is retired, and the "Sawamura Award" is presented annually to the best pitcher in Japan.
西村 幸生 Yukio Nishimura
伊勢市本町（うなぎ・喜多や）に生まれました。
関西大学時代には通算80勝3敗という驚異的な記録を残し、黄金時代を築き上げました。
昭和12年、「打倒沢村・打倒巨人」を掲げ大阪タイガースに入団。
とても重い直球（豪球）とシュートを武器に、入団1年目で開幕完封勝利。同年秋には15勝を挙げ、沢村栄治（9勝）を抑えて最多勝とMVPに輝きました。
闘志あふれる投球スタイルでタイガースを連覇に導いた、まさに「猛虎魂」の源流です。
Born in "Kitaya", Ise. He joined the Tigers in 1937 specifically to defeat Sawamura and the Giants.
Known for his heavy fastball and fighting spirit, he won the MVP and Most Wins title in his rookie year, surpassing Sawamura.
He is the origin of the "Tigers Spirit", leading the team to consecutive championships.
語り継がれる歴史 History Passed Down
当時の写真や情報の多くは戦争により失われてしまいましたが、二人の活躍は今もなお語り継がれております。
プロ野球草創期に、伊勢出身の投手「巨人・沢村栄治」「阪神・西村幸生」という、現在も続く伝統の一戦の主戦投手が二人もいたことは、伊勢の誇りとして現在も伝えられております。
Although many records were lost in the war, their legend lives on.
It is the pride of Ise that the two ace pitchers of the "Traditional Rivalry" (Giants vs. Tigers) were both from this city.
伝統の一戦の再現（2014年） The Revival (2014)
2014年3月10日、伊勢倉田山球場のこけら落としに合わせて、歴史が蘇りました。
80年前のプロ野球開始以来「伝統の一戦」と云われる巨人阪神戦（OB戦）が、ゆかりの地・伊勢で65年ぶりに開催されました。
この記念すべき試合には、西村幸生の実家である「喜多や」の店主も参加させていただきました。
On March 10, 2014, history was revived at the Ise Kuratayama Stadium.
The "Traditional Match" between Giants and Tigers legends was held in Ise for the first time in 65 years.
The owner of Kitaya, Nishimura's birthplace, also participated in this commemorative event.
